A favorite photo. A thousand tiny tiles.

Turn your photo into a brick mosaic you can build.

Make a flat portrait from 1,024 square 1×1 tiles. Brickoodle’s photo mosaic mode turns your uploaded picture into a 32×32 digital design, with building instructions and a shopping list for real LEGO pieces included in the paid generation.

Sign in, open Build with AI, upload a photo and choose the flat mosaic option. Physical tiles and backing are not included in the digital purchase.

What does a 32×32 photo mosaic mean?

Think of each tile as one colored pixel. There are 32 tiles across and 32 down, for 1,024 flat 1×1 tiles. This is a flat image made from individual pieces, not a full-depth sculpture or a photo printed on a plate.

The limited grid and available tile colors simplify faces, textures and small lettering. Large shapes and strong contrast tend to read more clearly than a busy scene full of tiny subjects. The result is an AI interpretation of your photo, not a promise of an exact color or pixel match.

Want a model you can walk around instead? Choose the photo-to-3D option, which uses a different AI credit type.

How to make your photo mosaic

  1. Choose and prepare a photo. Use a sharp picture with one clear subject. If needed, crop it on your device before uploading so the important face or object is large in the frame.
  2. Open the photo workflow. Sign into the Studio, open Build with AI, select “Use a photo instead,” and choose a flat mosaic rather than a 3D model.
  3. Generate and inspect. Use a photo-mosaic credit and allow several minutes. Inspect the face or silhouette and the color boundaries. Your generation saves to your account.
  4. Get the instructions and tile list. The paid generation includes both. Review the required backing/baseplate and upload the parts list to LEGO Pick a Brick. Confirm availability and the final brick cost there before purchasing.

Photos worth trying

  • A close-up portrait with the face clearly visible.
  • A pet against a simple, contrasting background.
  • A favorite toy or object with an obvious silhouette.
  • A well-lit subject without strong shadows hiding its features.

Details to simplify first

  • A large group where each face is only a small part of the image.
  • Fine text, fabric patterns or tiny logos that cannot fit the tile grid.
  • A dark subject on a similarly dark background.
  • Blur, glare or a tight crop that cuts off important features.

What does a photo mosaic cost?

A Single Photo Mosaic is $9.99 for 1 generation. The Photo Mosaic Pack is $14.99 for 2 generations. Both include instructions and a LEGO upload list for each generation. Prices are in USD, with no subscription.

The tiles and any backing/baseplate are purchased separately. Color availability and supplier prices can change, so the physical brick cost is an estimate until you check out with LEGO. View the current pack options.

Photo mosaic questions

Is this the official LEGO Mosaic Maker?

No. Brickoodle is an independent digital design tool. LEGO does not sponsor, authorise or endorse it. You buy the physical pieces separately from LEGO.com.

Does it use round studs or flat square tiles?

Brickoodle’s current photo-mosaic mode uses flat square 1×1 tiles on a 32×32 grid. Check the included parts list for the pieces and backing needed for your particular design.

Are photo generations free?

No. Photo mosaics use paid mosaic credits. Free manual building is a separate feature. A new AI attempt uses another credit; failed generations return their credit.

Will every color match my photo exactly?

No. Brick colors are a limited palette, and availability can change. Expect a stylized tile portrait rather than a photographic print, and review the preview and parts list before buying bricks.

Can I use the same photo for a 3D build?

Yes. Choose 3D instead of flat mosaic in the photo workflow. That uses a 3D-generation credit, and the AI must interpret depth rather than lay out a flat picture.
